Newspaper Salesman

RD1s, f5.6, 1/390, ISO 400, RAW, 28mm

Since I had the Epson RD1s for my comparison with the GRDs, I decided to use it today and take a few street shots with it. I wanted to see how good it will work for shots from the hip.
This picture while not perfect and blurry is the one I like most.

  1. It is still the camera I would love to try (possibly with a Zeiss 25/2.8 Biogon lens.

  2. I think he is a street sweeper not a newspaper salesman. The camera handles the colours well and the WB which can be distorted by a large area of yellow.

  3. Nice Picture, I like the RD1 - but I never had the chance to try one.

  4. It will be very interesting to hear your perspectives on the ergonomics of shooting with these cameras. I think Ricoh has the best design of all cameras. When I owned one, I just could not get used to a rangefinder (Voightlander)

  5. Wouter, you should try an RD1 if you get the chance. Maybe if we have a Ricoh meetup where you can join it will be possible.

Yesbuts, the title referred to the guy in the background who is the salesman.

Thanks for your comment Peter! The RD1 is in my opinion the best digital Rangefinder and beats the (IMO) overpriced Leica M8 and M9 cameras.

James, like you I don't get along with the Rangefinder focusing and while it's nice I prefer using an LCD or EVF instead of the OVF here where precise framing is impossible.
The controls are great though and I would say together with the ricoh cameras show how camera controls should be done properly.
