Texting in the Sun

GRD IV, f2.5, 1/143, ISO 80, RAW

The GRD IV certainly only ever uses f2.5 in P mode unless it's way too bright or way to dark, almost all of my pictures with it are taken at f2.5. It's a strange behaviour and while it does not affect the sharpness much or DOF due to the small sensor it strikes me as odd.

On another note, the full-press AF and AF in general don't get along well with backlit scenes and suffer from the same problem as described in my GXR A12 reviews of not focusing on anything. This is something I also need to keep an eye on more.

Sunday at the Southbank

Been around the Southbank with my GXR and Heliar 15mm lens today.
I like using a wideangle lens for street photography, it means you have to get closer but also means you don't have to worry much about focusing and more about composition and getting the moment. It is also very nice to be able to get more in the picture.

Initially I planned to post a longer series with some pictures I took of the art exhibitions and architecture there but decided to just focus on people an limit the number of pictures I post.

High Tide

GXR A12-M, f8.0, 1/870, ISO 200, RAW, 22mm (Voigtlander Heliar f4.5 15mm L)

The Heliar 15mm L lens is a great walk around lens on nice sunny days. It's wide but not too wide, it's very sharp, easy to focus and it's very small and light.
If there's enough light and you can handle the wider focal length it is a lens I can fully recommend and think everybody with a GXR A12-M should own.

MO Coffee

GRD IV, f2.5, 1/440, ISO 80, RAW

One strange thing I noticed about the GRD IV is when you shoot in P mode the camera almost always chooses f2.5 as the aperture unless it's way too bright or very dark and it can't use this. I am not sure why it's behaving like this since it's not what I am used to from the other GRDs. If you look at my pictures from the last days you will almost always see f2.5 as the aperture chosen although I have been shooting in P mode.

As for shooting in P mode, I am not a manual snob so don't need to set everything manually to feel good about stuff. I rather prefer to use P mode with the GRDs since it makes it easier for street photography and usually the GRDs choose the aperture I would also choose but not the GRD IV. Need to look into this some more.

Day in Arundel

I haven't taken the Panasonic LC-1 out in quite a while so when I decided to go to Arundel for the day it was an easy decision to take it along. Despite all new cameras I have and that are out there, the LC-1 remains unique and a joy to use. The image quality is very good, especially considering the old sensor in there.

Arundel is a very nice place to spend the day, the castle is big and fun to explore but also the town itself is very nice with old houses, nice pubs and restaurants. For photographers it's also worth going to spend some time looking at the antique shop's camera section.

This is a longer series than usual but I wanted to make up for not posting many LC-1 pictures recently.

A Day by the Sea

Spent the day in Brighton enjoying the sea and sun, travelled light so only took the GRD IV with me. All pictures are RAw files, processed with RAw Therapee and then with Snapseed for Windows.
My favourite is the 2nd with the boy throwing the stone in the water, not sure if I did not go a bit overboard with the processing but I quite like how it came out.

Dome of Greenwich

GRD IV, f2.5, 1/760, ISO 80, JPG multiple exposure

Been playing around with the multi exposure mode of the GRD IV, this is pretty fun and it is well implemented.
I wrote in my book about the GRD III that I found the high DR mode more usable as a double exposure mode so am happy to see Ricoh implementing this mode in the GRD IV.
