Crane

GXR A12-M, f5.6, 1/4000, ISO 200, RAW, 42mm (Ricoh GR f2.8 28mm L)

Took this during lunch while climbing up the Monument for the first time, it's pretty cool but whoever approved buildings to be built that high and that close to it managed to ruin a very nice landmark as it's easy to miss it and the view right now if full of cranes and construction sites.
Still, it was great to finally go up there and I can recommend it as it offers some nice views despite the buildings all around it.

Building

GF1, 1/2500, ISO 125, JPG b&w, 100mm (Canon f1.8 50mm FD)

This is not one of my best pictures but I simply like taking pictures of cranes so it can fit in my series.

Text Cranes

The weather has been again dull and grey today. This is not good when trying to use the text mode which needs a bit more contrast for best results. I took this picture on my way home and had a similar picture in my mind when I started the text mode week.

Two Cranes and a Spire

CX1, f4.9, 1/10, ISO 200, JPG b&w

Been a mostly grey and dull day in London today. Did not get much time for photography but managed to take this picture while waiting for the bus. I like cranes and somehow I think they fit well in front of the grey backdrop of clouds.

Lines of Nature?

CX1, f6.9, 1/540, ISO 80, JPG, 85mm

I took the CX1 with me today. The first impressions are great, Ricoh always had a great interface but this has been improved even more here. The camera is very fast and I mean in every respect, especially the AF is now faster than on the GRD I. You can read more on my Ricoh GR-Diary News blog in the coming days.

I have edited this picture in Photoshop but will post some out of camera full size samples in the next few days, as soon as I get used to the camera more.

Three Cranes

GRD, f8, 1/800, ISO 200, JPG b&w

I love cranes and I like taking pictures of reflections, although I don't get to do this very often. While taking a walk home today I saw the reflection of these three cranes and found it looked very good and could make a great b&w picture. I used ISO 200 to get some noise in the picture but also because I find it gives crisper images when compared to ISO 64 or ISO 100 on the GRD I.

The Fog Rises

GRD, f2.4, 1/25, ISO 64, JPG

Thick fog was coming over London this afternoon. The whole day before we had a very strange light. It was kind of yellow but lacking any contrast so terrible for photography. Not that fog is much better in terms of contrast but it does give a great atmosphere if you get the exposure right.
I had three pictures I liked from today so what made me choose this one was the fact that it is shot at a low ISO. Did not want to give the impression that my GRD I is broken and I can't move it away from ISO 400 or 1600 ;). I added some vignetting and used Noise Ninja to remove some color noise but more to sharpen the luminance noise.

The Battersea Power Station Project

This time it's not just a picture or a few random pictures from today but a project so you will have more pictures than usual.
The Battersea Power Station is one of the most iconic buildings in London and my personal favorite. The brick building with the four large chimneys is one of the largest brick buildings in the world and the largest in Europe. It has been designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, the same architect who designed the power station that is today the Tate Modern museum and the red telephone box. It featured on the Pink Floyd cover art for the album
Animals and also in the movie Children of Men and has been referenced and used in numerous movie and film productions.
It is a big shame that it is literally only a empty shell of the past glories. It lays empty and exposed to the elements since the 80s when a project to redevelop it failed. The only thing this project managed to do is remove the big engines and rip apart the roof and interior of the building. Now after all these years and failed attempts to redevelop it seems like the next project has been drawn up by Real Estate Opportunities and should be done by 2014. Let's hope that these plans finally work out so that this truly amazing building can be visited by people and put to some good use again after all these years.
The pictures are a mix of the GRD II with 21mm lens and the LC1, all developed from RAW and some are cropped. No Exif this time since it's not important for the this time ;).

Look Upwards

GRD II, f5, 1/100, ISO 80, RAW

After all the recent b&w pictures I had to upload a color picture today. Well, maybe color is not quite the right word for it ;). It is indeed color and not b&w though even if at first look it does not seem so. While walking to the DLR at Canary Wharf I looked upwards and noticed this scene. The sky was grey and everything else looked pretty grey and dull as well. I could not resist to take a picture and knew this is the one for the blog.
I like construction cranes and find them quite fascinating, make a great subject in pictures. Can see another series coming along but most require some zoom to really get a good angle on them so my GX or soon the LC1 would be better for it.
