Sunday in B&W

After a rainy start to the day the sun came out and it ended up being quite nice. I went for a walk around Bankside, Borough and the Tate Modern before going to check out a exhibition at the Bargehouse.

There were a lot of people out and about enjoying the sunshine and a drink by the Thames.

The Bargehouse is always worth a visit even if the exhibition itself is not that great but the exhibition this time was actually very good.

It was a student exhibition from a music and drama university in Wales so quite interesting and especially the miniatures they've done were really cool.

Viewpoints

Met some friends for a walk and a mini pub crawl along the Southbank today. I decided to take the GRD I with me although it was not to do much photography. We decided to get some culture in and went for a stroll along the Tate Modern.
The building is certainly way more impressive than the art, which for most part shows that you can get away with presenting anything as art as long as you convince someone hat it is or here is a deeper meaning to it.

Took this during my lunch break on a short visit to the Tate Modern, it is nice to work in the city as it allows to go out and visit some galleries during lunch.

Gallery Thursday

Went to the Tate Modern during lunch for a quick browse and after work I headed to the Whitechapel Gallery and after to my favourite gallery at the Wapping Project. This is a series of pictures taken at each of these galleries, the first is at the Tate, the second at the Whitechapel Gallery and the rest are all at the Wapping Project.

Standing and Watching

This is another of my lunchtime pictures, took a walk to the Tate Modern during lunch and went to see the really cool new Tanks extension part.
I do like industrial buildings and the Tate Modern is a very nice building.

R-D1 People

It has been quite a while since I used my Epson R-D1, or any other camera beside the GXR A12-M for that matter, so I dusted it off and took it out for a walk equipped with the Voigtlander Nokton f1.2 35mm lens. The lens surely looks more at home on the larger R-D1 than it does on the GXR A12-M but what I found very interesting is that the pictures look like it was a completely different lens that I used. The character seems different to a degree and it shows a higher degree of fringing next to the usual vignetting.

Framing and focusing on a rangefinder is not the most accurate or easiest thing, especially in low light and after being used to Mode 2 on the GXR. I still enjoy using the R-D1 and it's almost like going back in time.

This is a series of pictures I took at the Tate Modern and Borough market, I do like the crisp images from the R-D1 and the noise character but they are more rough and not on the same level as the GXR A12-M.

While I did not take many pictures yesterday, I took lots of pictures today. Originally, I planned a series on the Bargehouse and I've been there indeed and took lots of pictures. Now I tok this picture on the way there from the hip and had to crop it a lot.
Now, why did I choose this picture instead of the Bargehouse series that was planned? First, this picture just works great for me and it stands out between the rest of the pictures I took today. It's also a picture that I or anyone else will never take again. Second, I want to take more pictures of the Bargehouse over the weekend and see if it's possible to get in when it's empty so I can take soe more pictures. It is a great and very interesting building that offers great photo opportunities unless you only like to photograph nice things. You can say that I scouted the location today and will return over the weekend to take the pictures I want.

TH.2058

Today I have a series on the new exhibition in the Tate Modern, you might remember my 'The Hangar' post with the teaser for this. It's called TH.2058 by Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, for more details go here. It is quite interesting and worth a visit even if you, like me, are not a huge fan of modern art.

All pictures are taken in JPG with the GRD I and the 40mm and 21mm lens at ISO 400 and are unprocessed. I really like the images the GRD I produces at ISO 400 and don't mind the noise at all.

The Hangar

Took a walk across the Millenium Bridge and to the Tate Modern today during lunch. They prepare a new exhibition in the turbine hall and you could only see the top but it looked intriguing. The hall and the cables give it kind of a Sci-fi look and I wanted to have it in b&w and high contrast at first but find it works better in color.

Spare A Little Change

This guy has been in the same spot since the first time I've been to London 5 years ago. He is always at the walkway up to the Millennium Bridge on the Tate Modern site and always with his dog. I had him before in one picture but liked this shot since I always wanted to have a picture taken from above.
I changed the contrast and colors and cropped the image slightly.

Quick update for today since it's already late. Finally managed to upload my posts for the last days.
Took this picture today after work and while it was planned to be a b&w high contrast shot I decided to use the color version and recover some of the overexposed areas.
