GX100 in Greenwich

A day in Greenwich with a great friend who has helped me a lot through the past months so it was great to spend the day chatting and taking photos.

Greenwich has changed quite a lot recently but it's still the nicest part of London together with Blackheath.

While I had a lot of cameras to decide between, I went with the GX100 since it's still a fantastic camera and still going strong even after all this time.

While I won't miss most parts of London, I will miss Greenwich and just chilling at a pub by the river and enjoying a pint.

Under the Pier

Took this while walking to a different pub with friends after spending most day chilling at the Brewfest in Greenwich.
The tide was low enough at first but while taking pictures and fiddling with settings I did manage to gt wet feet so it's a good reason to post this picture.

In front of the o2

A small series of pictures I took outside the o2, the light was very good and a lot of people were out in the sun and just walking around.

Huddled Together

Took the GXR with Heliar 15mm lens and the GR with the 21mm adapter out to shoot some comparison pictures around Greenwich. It was actually very nice using the GXR again, it feels different but using the old manual focus lenses is quite satisfying and I prefer to have Mode 2 on all the time as it helps me with the composition.

This is one of the pictures I took in between, I liked the light and how they were both focused on the phone.

Artists

Just two pictures I liked of two different artists at work.

With he below picture, I also got an opportunity to see how the GR performs in a dimly lit venue, it did a very good job although the AF was quite slow at times but always accurate. The high ISO is also very impressive and retains a lot of detail even when shooting at ISO 12800.

At Greenwich Beach

Took this while out for a walk around Greenwich, like how it looks as if thi was taken somewhere at a beach rather than at the Thames.

Under the Pier

Took this while walking to Canary Wharf to meet some friends for drinks.

At first I took a picture of him from above where you could see more of the pier but then decided to walk down and get a closer shot and a different perspective.

White Flower

In order to break up all the recent street photographs I decoded to post a simple flower macro. Not very exciting but a change of pace.

View over London

Took this while put for a walk around Greenwich today. The weather was not great and mostly grey skies but at least the clouds were quite interesting.
Liked this picture most since it has a human element in there and is a different view of London from what most people see or even I photograph while taking pictures around Greenwich.

Sitting on One Tree Hill

The weather has been great today. Went for a walk around Greenwich and Blackheath but was not hugely inspired so did not take that many pictures, this is one of the first pictures I took.

Dog Day Afternoon

Took this while walking through the park, been a grey and rainy day here so the sad expression on the dogs face was certainly fitting.

Holding On

The weather has been fairly nice again so I decided to head out and take some comparison pictures for my GR review. I packed the GRD I, GRD IV, GR and the GXR A12 28mm and did a few real life shots around Greenwich.

There will be more extensive comparisons in my full review but for now a quick teaser to how the cameras perform.
The GR and GXR A12 28mm are obviously the most detailed and have the highest dynamic range, there is not really much difference between them in most cases so both are very capable although the GR retains more details. The GRDs are fairly well matched and the biggest difference is that the GRD I has more noise but it also looks more crisp and more 'film like'.

Solving the Puzzle

Took this in the Greenwich museum during a walk today. I liked the light and how the kids were standing opposite each other. The GR captured the colours very well.

5 from the GDIF 2013

Another mostly grey and cloudy day, it cleared up briefly in between but for most parts it stayed grey. I decided to go and check out more of the GDIF 2013 and took a few picture of the performances and people around.
This is a small series from the festival taken with the GR.

On Top of the Whale

Took this while out for a walk around the GDIF 2013, the Greenwich Docklands International Festival. The GR performed very well and I even got to use it in low light at ISO 26500 and this was very impressive.

First Ricoh GR Outing and Impressions

This morning my GR sample finally arrived, taking it out and turning it on gave me a very familiar feeling. While on paper the GR is slightly bigger and heavier than the previous GRDs, when you have it in your hand it just feels right and you forget it's a new camera.

The day has been haze and grey mostly so not ideal to go out shooting, instead I spent some time to go into the menus and set the camera up, the new menus are nice and as usual very efficient but I doubt I will ever see them again now that I set the GR up as I like.

By late afternoon I had to go out and take some pictures. In use the GR is simply fantastic, everything has been improved and refined from the previous generations, the start up time, shot to shot time, AF, write time have all been improved and are now at least twice as fast when compared with the GRD IV or the GXR A12 28mm.

The image quality is equally great and beats the GXR A12-M in terms of noise, dynamic range and even detail (now I really want thus sensor in a new M mount module!). Even the JPGs (usually a poor showing from Ricoh) are excellent and the b&w JPGs almost rival the GRD I JPGs although they lack the film look due to the sensor being cleaner and having a higher dynamic range.

I will write more and post a full review in the coming days and weeks but for now I am hugely impressed, despite being sceptical at first.

Boat on the River

I should hopefully receive my GR tomorrow or in the coming days so I thought I take the GRD IV for a spin to get a better feel for the differences GR once it's there.

Took this picture after leaving the cinema, the sun came out and it ended up being a nice eve ing despite the morning having been a bit overcast.

Impressed

After a rainy start it turned out to be a nice and sunny later afternoon/evening so I went out for a walk and to take some pictures around Greenwich.

Cat

Just a quick nap of the neighbour's cat after it stopped lazying around in the garden. Not the most exciting picture but I do like it anyway.

Cutty Sark

After spending quite a bit of my day looking into stock photography, I had to get out and take some pictures and stuck with the LC1 now that is was dusted off. Using the LC1 is very nice and it has a nice way of working and great feel to using it.
