Chinatown in Bangkok

To get a change from the usual, I went to Chinatown in Bangkok to take some photos and get dinner.

Chinatown certainly makes for a nice change, especially at night, thanks to the lit up signs.

It's very busy and the prices for food are higher than they should be, given Chinese food is usually quite inexpensive.
It's still worth a visit and makes for a nice change.

Kanchanaburi to Uthai Thani

After a slower start in the morning and a must do visit to the Bridge on the River Kwai, we set off to get to Tak or maybe even Mae Sot.

As you can judge from the title of this post we didn't quite make it there but Uthai Thani proved to be a great place to stop over.

The roads were definitely better, less highway and more country roads with actual things to see and Thai people to meet during coffee breaks.

Ultimately the late start and slower drive on the country roads meant we had to change plans and stay in Uthai Thani. This was not really a problem as the drive was fun and Uthai Thani is a pretty cool place.

It has a lot of Chinese influences there, is quiet and laid back, people are friendly and it has some pretty cool roundabouts to discover.

So far Uthai Thani proved to be my favorite place in Thailand during this trip and I could have even stayed longer here.

Wat Chedi Luang

After a night in the comfortable but freezing train, I arrived in Chiang Mai in the morning and tok it easy for most of the day, only went for a walk in the afternoon.

Having seen most places already 3 years ago, I just went to the Chedi Luang temple and took some photos on the way there.

Singapore Stopover

Stopovers are usually pretty annoying, if you have enough time to leave the airport and do some sightseeing then it can be quite fun.

Having 8h to spend in Singapore till the next flight to Da Nang meant there was enough time for some sightseeing.

Singapore is not my favorite place, it's expensive and lacks character but it's ok for a short stay and even better for just a stopover.

This being Sunday the city felt pretty empty and most places were closed but at least Chinatown is always open and bustling, it also offers some cheap places to eat.

Hue Festival 2016 - Day 3

The third day of the Hue Festival had a parade with some street performances from different countries.

As is typical in Asia, the parade started late but was fun. I chose a spot to take photos which was shooting against the sun. While a big no-no in photography terms I liked the shadows it created and wanted different photos.

It started quiet with only a few people around but more and more people and motorbikes came along as the parade went on.

For the evening I figured I'll head to Thanh Toan bridge since they had some nice lantern display and live music.

The lights were great and it was packed so this time I was certainly in the right place.

Aside from the lights and music, they also had some games for adults, teens and kids alike.

The games didn't make it too difficult for people to win something so everyone was happy.
