The great thing about living in one of the most unorganized and inefficient countries in the world is that you might get unexpected a day off to play in the snow. This happened to most Londoners today. It began snowing quite heavily yesterday evening and since no one ever bothers here to clean up the snow it was clear that busses and trains will have problems in the morning. It came as expected so my thanks to the "idiot" who decided that puttng the powerlines for trains on the ground is a good idea. He is in a big part responsible for giving everyone a day off :). The other part goes to whoever should be clearing the roads so that cars and busses can drive.
When it snows it's the perfect chance for adults to behave like children and go out playing in the snow, building snowmen, having snowball fights and sliding down a hill on whatever they can find. These were the scenes in and around Blackheath and Greenwich park today and probably most of London.
Took this picture on the heath today. The title for the picture would be "Tree of Love" but "Snowed Under" fits better to the theme for today. Took all pictures with the GX200 and while it has some problems with fringing and the focus gets confused by too much white snow it performed great and had no problems with the wet and cold conditions.
I know I've mentioned it before but really I do enjoy what you're posting. Such energy day in and out. Really nice man.
ReplyDeleteThat must have been an expensive day for Britain? Not really the kind of day you could use. But it resulted in a wonderful picture.
ReplyDeleteThe picture warms.
ReplyDeleteI watched the news about the snow in Britain a while ago. The last shot was on a man taking a picture of the snow scene. I thought about you, Cristian! Hope you're fine. Take care.
The great thing about yesterday was - everybody was so friendly and smiling at each other. Walking around central London in the morning, I estimate over 50% of the people were photographers overdosing on great images. Can't wait for the next time in 20 years.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments!
ReplyDelete®, I am glad you enjoy my posts. I really enjoy posting and it's something I look forward to every day.
Wouter, it was an expensive day for Britain but showed exactly why the country has been hit hardest by the economic downturn. Britain is completely unorganized and managed by incompetent people. I bet next time it snows we will have exactly the same problems.
Mike, I had a great day out in the snow and so had most Londoners. Overall it was possibly one of the best days for London in quite a while.
Yesbuts, you are right and I noticed the same. People were all in a good moos and friendly whereever you went. A lot of photographers were also out in Blackheath.
We might not have to wait 20 years for that if it realy snows as much as the news say we might have another day off to play in the snow by the end of the week :). The transport companies will be as usual incompetent and stop all service.
Cristi, I also enjoy reading your Blog (and yesbuts too!) and looking at your pictures taken arounds London. I love London and the snow was for sure a big challenge (as always when it happens :-) ). Not much out here in Ireland, some snow fall but nothing serious.
ReplyDeleteThanks Marco, very glad to hear that. I follow your blog every day and find your pictures very interesting.
ReplyDeleteSnow and any kind of unusual weather is a challenge for London but it's all part of the fun here :).
Ireland is a place I need to visit, it looks like it offers plenty of great photo opportunities.
