Fun and Games

GR, f2.8, 1/1000, ISO 100, RAW

It is always a god idea to not only have your camera on hand but also turned on when walking or just waiting outside as you never know when an opportunity presents itself. I liked her playing with the kids and they all seemed to have a great time, I was happy to capture the moment.

Enjoying the View

GR, f5.6, 1/500, ISO 100, RAW

Took this while out for a quick walk in Greenwich park. Liked how they were each standing different but looking in the same direction, decided to frame them centred and have the fence posts as an additional frame..

Saying Goodbye

GR, f2.8, 1/60, ISO 400, RAW

Sometimes you have to part ways and say bye. I really liked the scene with just them alone at London Bridge station.

Silverstone Classic 2013

The Silverstone Classic always makes for a nice day out and this year was no exception, the weather held up nicely despite it raining the night before and rain being forecast.

I took the GXR A12-M with Heliar 15mm, Jupiter-11 135mm and the Leica Elmar 90mm lens with me although I used mostly the two longer lenses as you can see in the series here.

Afternoon Snack

GR, f2.8, 1/320, ISO 100, RAW

Took this while out in Greenwich Park for a walk, it was a bit grey and rainy but still warm so quite nice to be out.
Made some use of the macro mode of the GR, it is nit as good as on the previous GRDs thanks to their smaller sensors but it is still really nice to have and delivers great results.

To Each Their Own

GR, f6.3, 1/250, ISO 200, RAW

Took this while in the City, listening to some live music in Paternoster Square for the City of London Festival.

In front of the o2

A small series of pictures I took outside the o2, the light was very good and a lot of people were out in the sun and just walking around.

Huddled Together

GXR A12-M, f5.6, 1/1230, ISO 200, RAW, 22mm (Voigtlander Heliar f4.5 15mm L)

Took the GXR with Heliar 15mm lens and the GR with the 21mm adapter out to shoot some comparison pictures around Greenwich. It was actually very nice using the GXR again, it feels different but using the old manual focus lenses is quite satisfying and I prefer to have Mode 2 on all the time as it helps me with the composition.

This is one of the pictures I took in between, I liked the light and how they were both focused on the phone.

Looking Up

GR, f6.3, 1/250, ISO 500, RAW

Took this while in the City sorting more of my visa and other stuff out, took quite a few pictures but somehow liked this one best.

The Painter

GR, f8.0, 1/250, ISO 100, JPG

Another photo for my artists series and it would have also been a good fit for yesterday's post. Took it while out for a walk in Greenwich park, where I have also processed it in-camera using the Positive Film effect.
I do like the JPGs in the GR, Ricoh has finally improved and moved away from the smudgy low dynamic range JPGs to quite excellent JPGs so the in-camera RAW development and effects make a lot more sense now.
Another nice thing about the GR is that you can shoot RAW while having the effects applied to the image, unlike the GRD IV and GXR where you could only use the effects in JPG only mode.

Artists

Just two pictures I liked of two different artists at work.

With he below picture, I also got an opportunity to see how the GR performs in a dimly lit venue, it did a very good job although the AF was quite slow at times but always accurate. The high ISO is also very impressive and retains a lot of detail even when shooting at ISO 12800.

At Greenwich Beach

GR, f8.0, 1/500, ISO 100, JPG

Took this while out for a walk around Greenwich, like how it looks as if thi was taken somewhere at a beach rather than at the Thames.

Under the Pier

GR, f6.3, 1/250, ISO 125, RAW

Took this while walking to Canary Wharf to meet some friends for drinks.

At first I took a picture of him from above where you could see more of the pier but then decided to walk down and get a closer shot and a different perspective.

Just People

Been in the City and the Barbican for most of the day to finish a photo project. It was a very hit day and the light was very harsh but this was what I was after when deciding to go to the Barbican.

You will hear more about the project and see some pictures but for now these are pictures I took in between while walking around.

White Flower

GR, f5.0, 1/250, ISO 200, JPG

In order to break up all the recent street photographs I decoded to post a simple flower macro. Not very exciting but a change of pace.

Oranje

GR, f2.8, 1/60, ISO 1600, RAW

Took this in the ferry after arriving at Harwich and going to take the bus to the terminal. The orange colour did fit very well after my stay in Amsterdam.

Amsterdam Stopover

While heading back to Hoek to catch the return ferry to London, I had an hour in Amsterdam and made use of it by taking some pictures around town. Here a short series with some street photography, all pictures are out of camera JPGs.

Lamp-post

GR, f8.0, 1/200, ISO 100, RAW

Spent the day at a friends wedding, it was nice to catch up with everyone and also allowed me to use the GR as a more social camera. It worked very well although the AF in low light is quite a bit slower than other Ricoh cameras but it seems very accurate.

This is a picture I took in between the ceremony and reception.

A Day in Amsterdam

After spending the night on board the ferry, I arrived in Hoek early on Friday morning. From there it was another quick train journey to Amsterdam where I met Björn for lunch and a photo walk.

He got the change to use my GR and I had more time to use his RX1, we even got to interchange the GW-3 21mm adapter and test how it works on the RX1.

Both cameras are great tools and probably the best fixed lens cameras you can get right now. I am more at home with the 28mm focal length of the GR but the RX1 is great in use and the image quality is fantastic.

This is a series of pictures taken with both cameras, mixed together.
