Tree in B&W

This is a 20mp image created by zooming in and using the rectangular panorama mode on the OnePlus One phone with the Google Camera app.

Now, you might rightly ask why I bothered to zoom in and use the panorama mode given that I could have much easier taken one photo with the 13mp camera as is.
My reasoning was that by zooming in, I got a slight different field of view and while this decreases resolution, by utilizing the panorama mode I did not only get the resolution I lost back but also the field of view closer to what I wanted. While for this photo it was not really necessary as I could have got the same result by moving closer, it is certainly something I am thinking to explore more.

Blossom Mural

OPO, f2.0, 1/1099, ISO 101, JPG
Maybe a bit too much processing but I wanted this to look like a painting or wall mural and a bit abstract.
Sometimes it's not about being close to reality but having something different to look at and here I did like the result more than some other photos I processed a lot less.

In a Sea of Blue

OPO, f2.4, 1/148, ISO 100, RAW
Been a grey and rainy day so I took it easy but did go for a walk and to take some photos with my OnePlus One phone. I ended up mostly with colorful flower photos but it's the nice thing about spring here and a nice contrast to the grey skies today.

I took this photo as RAW in camera, edited it on the OnePlus One with Photo Mate but did post it from my Surface. This time I didn't use Snapseed to process it, although the new version of it is really good.

Springtime

OnePlus One, f2.0, 1/1783, ISO 100, RAW
You might have wondered why there were no posts for the past week. After not feeling very inspired, I needed a break from photography so during the past week I have hardly taken any photos.
I did miss the daily posting though so I think this is not something I want to give up fully but I am thinking to maybe only post when there is something to post. I am not quite decided on that yet so will see how it goes over the next week.

Thanks to the low Euro and me being fed up with the crappy battery life of my Nexus 5, I decided to get another phone. Since I would never again want to spend more for a phone than for a computer, I decided to go for the OnePlus One phone.

The phone is great for the price and the built in camera app might be crappy (so I replaced it with the Google one) but it does offer RAW capture. Curious as I am and having nothing better to do on a sunny Sunday afternoon, I took my phone with me and headed to the park.

I took some comparison photos with the different camera apps and looked at he RAW files and have to say, the JPGs are pretty rubbish with sharpening artefacts and weird contrast levels but the RAW flesh are actually pretty decent.

Daffodils

a7s, f5.6, 1/100, ISO 100, RAW, 50mm (Sony SEL 16-50mm)
Since I still had the Sony a7s and my NEX-3n doesn't work anymore, I figured I try the 16-50mm kit zoom on the a7s for fun and to see the results it gives. The 16-50mm kit zoom is not a very good lens on the APS sensor of the NEX-3n so it's pretty useless on the a7s. Still, it was fun using it in a Helga/Loom kind of way.

Are You in the Market?

GRD, f7.1, 1/640, ISO 1600, JPG b&w

It's been a cold and grey day so I didn't really do much photography but did take some photos on my way to the shops.

Fountain

GXR A12-M, f2.8, 1/100, ISO 766, RAW, 53mm (Jupiter-12 f2.8 35mm LTM)

It started off as another nice and sunny day but became overcast in the afternoon. While I had more photography planned, I only went for a walk around the park here and took some photos with the GXR A12-M and Jupiter-12 lens.

Walk on Water

GXR A12-M, f6.3, 1/290, ISO 200, RAW, 42mm (Ricoh GR f2.8 28mm L)

It's been a long time since my GXR Mount A12 got stolen and I did miss it, the Sony NEX-3n was nice but nowhere near the GXR in terms of controls and the peaking mode is not very good on the Sony.
But I got another GXR Mount A12 now and put the GR f2.8 28mm L lens on it to take it for a spin today. It's still a great camera and great to use, shame Ricoh seems to have abandoned the GXR altogether as the Mount module could do with an update and a newer sensor.

A-Wassailing

Springtime is near and today was a very nice early spring day with lots of sunshine. While out for a walk enjoying the nice weather I came across people singing in the park.

This was a group of people with the community garden project in Streatham blessing the Apple trees they just planted. They were following the old tradition of Wassailing.

It was great fun and people there were all in a good mood, singing and having a good time. I stuck around to take some photos and listen to the music. Having the GF1 and Canon 50mm FD lens with me meant I was struggling a bit to get everything in the frame but it also meant I could get some nice portraits.

Garden Talk

GRD I, f9.0, 1/2000, ISO 400, JPG b&w, 40mm

After the rather grey and cold day yesterday, it's been a very nice sunny and warm Sunday. I've made use of it by going for a walk and sitting in the sun. While walking around the Rookery in Streatham Common, I came across the community garden project here and the guy was very happy to tell me all about it.

Following from yesterday, I took the GRD I with me but used it with the 40mm adapter today. I do like the b&w photos it produces even if the technical quality is not anywhere near the GR.

Two Guys and a Dog

GR, f2.8, 1/320, ISO 18000, RAW

Another quiet day mostly chilling at home but I did go out to one of the local pubs in the evening. I took my GR with me for some photography but ended up with only two photos. I used the 47mm crop mode for this one because it made composition easier and I didn't need to crop afterwards.

At the Traffic Lights

GR, f2.8, 1/125, ISO 5000, RAW

It's been a grey, rainy and cold day so while I planned to go out and do some photography, I ended up chilling at home most of the day but did go out for a walk in the evening. My photos from that walk were not that great but this one I like best. It's good to have the blog going or I might end up being too lazy to go and take photos on some days.

Dessert

GF1, f1.8, 1/160, ISO 3200, RAW, 100mm (Canon f1.8 50mm FD)

While enjoying a pint and a wee dram at a local pub I took this photo of her enjoying the desert she got.

It's always a challenge of using the GF1 because it doesn't have a WYSIWYG live view but instead always gains it up and shows you a nicely exposed photo, this is very annoying. It is nice if you want to focus but then it should go back to show the actual exposure on the screen or at least the histogram when half pressing the shutter.
