Day 90 - Another Day in Bangkok

It's been almost 3 months now since I left London for my journey but it feels like a lifetime ago. A lot has happened, I have seen some fantastic places, met great people and overall had an amazing time.
Sure, not everything always went to plan and I had to improvise quite a few times, I lost my Fonepad, had my GXR A12-M with Jupiter-8 and Heliar 15mm lenses stolen and had to spend quite a few mornings looking for a replacement power adapter for my Surface. But all of this does not matter because the trip so far was well worth it and the best thing is that it's not anywhere near being over.

Today, is the last full day in Bangkok and since I have been here quite long it was just about taking it easy.

Just walking around a city is quite a nice experience as you can just take it in without the need to rush anywhere or feeling like you are missing out on things.

Tomorrow evening I will take the train from Bangkok to Vientiane for the next part of my journey in Laos. I am not sure what to expect and have not really planned my journey through Laos yet but as usual will take things as they come and see where the journey leads me. One thing I always know is that it will be great fun and very interesting.

Day 89 - Day in Ayutthaya

Got up a bit earlier to take the train to Ayutthaya and explore the old capital, the train is pretty cheap and makes for a nice journey to get there.

Once there, I took the ferry service across the river and walked to see the main temples and ruins, on the way there you will find old ruins dotted all around the place.

Walking around Ayutthaya and see the ruins is quite nice and a welcome change from being in Bangkok, it's not as impressive as Angkor Wat or as well preserved but still worth a visit.

You can see and do everything there is in a leisurely half day trip from Bangkok or as a stopover to Chiang Mai or any of the other places.

On the way back to Bangkok, the train passed by a huge gathering of people celebrating in the streets, it was the Democratic party marches.

Day 88 - Bangkok Views

Today, I went for a walk around the main shopping areas in Bangkok to get  different view and see where the local people go on a weekend.

It was a very nice walk and good to see a different area in Bangkok, not that I am into shopping but walking around the shopping plazas and malls was quite enjoyable.

There were lots of people around shopping and going to the temples dotted all around in front of all the major malls.

The evening was spent having and hugely overpriced drink at the State Tower, it featured in the Hangover 2 movie. The views were great but the place is insanely pricey, very poncy with people taking themselves too serious and  pretty stiff atmosphere. Would recommend you go there only to take pictures and stay away from ordering any drinks unless you go there for a special occasion.

Tomorrow, I will head to Ayutthaya for a day trip and to get out of the city.

Update on Updates

In Bangkok now after spending some time in Cambodia.

As you can see from my last post, my Surface charger and the GXR with lenses got stolen in the train to Ho Chi Minh so this meant I could not keep up with my blog updates or photo backups.

I have still quite a bit to go through to catch up but hopefully it won't take too long now that I finally found a charger and can use my Surface again.

I guess it's also Happy Halloween to everyone! :)

Day 87 - Streets of Bangkok

After yesterday's post, I decided to focus a bit more on street photography for today. I have seen quite a few temples and great landscapes recently and also big cities for that matter but figured it would be good to jut focus on people and street photography.

Not much in terms of commentary for today, just pictures.
Maybe one comment about Bangkok, I am still not fully sure what to think of it and it's a bit confusing to me as a city but cool at the same time. I do kind of miss the (organised?) chaos and madness from China and Vietnam though.

Maybe not my best work in terms of street photography but I think it complements yesterday#s post well and is a change from some of the previous posts.
