Fish-eye 2 - The Return

"Jesus"
GRD II, f4.5, 1/320, ISO 200, RAW, 8.4mm

"Sharp"
GRD II, f2.4, 1/40, ISO 200, RAW, 14mm

People are never happy with what they have and always want something else even if they don't need it. Since I am no exception to that I thought I have to try out the Raynox QC-505 adapter, too. So I went today to Tottenham Court Road and after some haggling got the adapter for a good price. While I tried it out shortly last week it was not long enough to really get to know what it can do.
Today I could try it alongside the QC-303 and while the QC-303 gives 8.4mm field of view the QC-505 is closer to 14mm so quite a big difference. On the other side it exhibits a lot less distortion and a more usable picture overall.
I will do a quick comparison tomorrow and show the different field of view plus other things I might find interesting.
For today enjoy these two pictures, one is shot with the 303 and the other with the 505 as you can see from the exif information.

  1. The Jesus pic is incredibly good! The "sharp" one made me laugh. Good combination! :)

  3. I agree with Delacruz that the Jesus photograph is very good. Interestingly too at a station.

  5. Just wondering where on TCR you got the fish-eye adaptor. I'd love to get one for my GRD II and am going to be in London this weekend so I could pick one up then. Cheers,

  6. Mark, have a look at 'Harp', they might still have some Raynox adapters left. They are literally across the street from where I took the Sharp picture. I got one of the adapters on amazon.co.uk and had it shipped from Germany.

  7. Called in at Harp on TCR on Saturday and not only did they have a few of the Raynox QC-505s left, but when I got out my GRD II to test the fit, the guy in the shop remebered you coming in with yours! Anyway, thanks so much for the tip - it really is a lot of fun for very little money. Just need to get one of the QC-303s online now to complete the set.

  8. Glad you could get the Raynox adapter at Harp. They are quite cool there and I always have a nice chat with them where I am in the area.
It's great that they remember me since it has been a while but they were quite impressed with the GRD there.
Have fun with your new adapter!
