The weather is still gray and rainy here so what better to do in the evening than chill with some wine, watching a movie and listening to some jazz. Can only recommend listening to Grover Washington jr., who has an album called "Winelight" and is also today's title.
This is the first longer exposure I post with the GRD II and also a re-visit of my very first picture when I started the blog. As I said, I was not quite happy with it and always wanted to re-do it. This time I am happy with the result and will leave it at that.
Definetely a much more "moody" version. I like it, but even when I am not a pixel "sectarian" I was a bit surprised ,when checking the big version of the picture, with the amount of noise, specially in the edges and in the transition areas for a iso80 picture..I understand that the subject is very dark and that it can be a torture for a small sensor camera but..
ReplyDeleteStill I really like the texture noise gives to the pictures, and have developed a taste for the special look this cameras provide (so much that I haven´t shot a single frame with my Canon 30D since the Panny arrived!!).
Nice one!!
Thanks Erik.
ReplyDeleteThe noise seems to be to my post processing this time. The original image was pretty dark so I used 50 fill light in Photoshop and sharpened it a lot but this introduced the noise. Here it's not the camera but more my post processing to blame.
BTW, what happened with your GX100 purchase?
Cris, I took a look at the photograph once more after I posted my comment and realised that it does look more like "artifacts" than noise. There seems to be none in the dark areas and it is more present in the contrast and transition areas..By the way, when are you planning on emptying that glass of wine...?? :-)
ReplyDeleteRegarding the GX100, the guy backed up (it was a very nice deal), so I´m left alone with my "poor" LX2 ;-)
Still keeping an eye and debating werther to get one or not..
Erik, the artifacts are indeed noise in the original file but Picasa recompresses my images and resizes them so sometimes it introduces artifacts.
ReplyDeleteHehe, the wine is already empty. Never holds for long if it's a nice wine ;).
Shame about the GX100, the deal sounded very goo indeed.
I can offer to get you one from Jessops here but it would be 270 pounds plus shipping to you, no idea how muh this would be. Not that I want to tempt you ;).
Cris, if I´m correct, 270 pounds should be something arond 230-240 Euros. The cheapest I can find around is 420€, and many of the mainland dealers won´t ship to the Canaries (we have a special tax regime here) so not a bad price at all..I´ve got a second hand one in the "viewfinder" at the moment, but if that fails I might pick up your offer..Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteHi Erik, 270.00 GBP are 337.997 EUR at the moment. The GRD I has a better value with only 180GBP.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the offer you have at the moment. Hope it works out for you.
