Hey Mr. Guitarman

Recently I always struggle with the decision of which camera to take with me and depending on the mood I might end up with more than one camera.
So today I decided not to take any camera with me but use my iPhone instead. I can not realy take any phone camera serious and think people are wasting their time using phone camras to take pictures but it seems most don’t care.

Since I think of phone cameras more as gimicks and see it as kind of a Lomo (just with worse quality), I decided to do another iPhone week and not use a proper camera but challenge myself to try and get something usefull out of the crappy iPhone camera.

Walk around Wycombe

The weather has been fantastic today. Instead of spending the day in London I decided to go with some friends out and explore the Wycombe area. We started off with a visit to Hughenden Manor before walking across fields to West Wycombe Park where we gatecrashed a wedding by mistake.

It was a great day out and I took lots of pictures with the GF1 and both the Panasonic 40mm lens and the Olympus 14-42mm lens. I can’t help but wish either Panasonic or Olympus would release a lens like the one on the LC1 for their m4/3 cameras so I could just get this and never have to worry about using anything else.

Howard the Duck

I took this picture while walking by the Barbican today and really loved the scene. The duck was standing there posing for quite a while so I took quite a few pictures. Unfortunately the light was fairly low and I needed quite a bit of zoom for the right composition so it was not a perfect situation for the GXR with P10 module.

I chose the title based on the movie ‘Howard the Duck’.

I never used to like the Barbican Centre before but after working close by and spending more time there it did grow on me. Now I really like it and go there to chill during lunch but also to take some pictures, the architecture is very interesting and unlike Canary Wharf nobody bothers you if you take pictures.

Hollow People

Today, I met with Tom and Kesh from the last Ricoforum meetup to go for a walk along the Thames from the O2 to Woolwich and across to Silvertown and back to the Millenium Mills.

I took the LC1 and GXR with P10 module with me and took lots of pictures but my favorite one is from the LC1.

The Factory

The weather was great and I went for a long walk after work. I did not take as many pictures as I thought I would but am quite happy with the ones I did take and enjoyed using the LC1 a lot.

Chorus at Wapping

Today saw the opening of the latest exhibition at the Wapping Project titled Chorus. It is a sound and light artwork which works very well in the big hall and with the great backdrop of the Wapping Hydraulic Power Station.

There were quite a lot of people at the opening and the exhibition definitely makes for some great pictures and is worth a visit.

After my post yesterday, I decided to use the LC1 for the rest of the week so instead of using the GF1 with the much improved AF or ISO I used the LC1 and was actually quite happy with the results. This I liked best although it is not perfectly in focus or really sharp.

Panasonic LC1

Today, Carl Garrad has posted his article/review of the Panasonic LC1 and you can read it here. It is a great read and more than just a review, it's an homage to one of the finest digital cameras ever produced.

I have been a huge fan of the LC1 since I got it last year. Like the GRD I it is a very special camera to me and one that inspires me to go out and take pictures. It is a camera that feels right and one that you want to use, a camera made for photographers.

Carl's article describes it very well so I don't want to repeat things just that the LC1 is probably the best converhence between film and digital cameras which works much better in a digital world than the too analog Leica M8/9 or even the excellent Epson RD1.

It is trully a shame that Panasonic never released a LC2 or a m4/3 camera based on the LC1 design, instead they have tried too much to copy dSLRs and compact point and shoot cameras. I sure hope we might see a LC2 with updated 2/3" sensor, the same amaizing lens and some small changes like an additional ISO and/or EV dial.
