GRD, f9, 1 sec., ISO 64, RAW, 40mm

Quick update today, after the recent news it's a bit quieter now.
Took this picture today on my way home and thought I try a long exposure and play a bit with light streaks from passing cars. It came out almost as I wanted it but it's a bit soft due to the dark frame substraction the GRD performs for long exposures, even in RAW.

  1. Did you use a tripod?
Does the GRD have a ND filter setting to allow longer exposure?

  2. I never owned a tripod, I like improvising and want to travel light. This was taken using a wodden pole at the side of the road for assistance ;).
The GRD has a ND filter but it can not be activated manually and the camera only uses it automatically in bright light. This is something Ricoh needs to fix.
The GRD allows very long exposures and the scene was rather dark anyway so with f9 and using RAW to recover some highlights I could get this shot.

  3. Great attempt. I like longer exposures. You might want to consider a Gorillapod. Small, lightweight, and very flexible.

  4. Thanks Wouter. I've tried the Gorillapod in a shop but ruled it out as it could not hole the GRD with adapter lenses. Might still have a look at it to use without the adapter lenses.
