Day 112 - Views in Hanoi

After chilling in the morning I set out for a walk without any particular destination in mind. I just wanted to enjoy the city and also try to take some slightly different pictures of it.

I ended up walking to the B52 lake and then around the Ngoc Ha area with it's narrow streets and passages.

It was fun to wander and get lost in the area and I ended up taking more pictures of the buildings than people.

After a brief walk through the botanical gardens, I got to the West Lake and wandered around there for a bit.

Will have to see about the theme for my Hanoi photo project in the coming days.

  1. Hi Cristian. Happy birthday once again and I hope you're treating yourself to some beers!
I like the first shot for its dynamism, with the still background, slightly motion-blurred pedestrian and the fast-moving scooters.
The last shot is also eye-catching, with the pattern of ladders set against the blue background. The boy and his sticks provide the subject for the photo, with his sticks adding a miniaturised version of the ladders.

  2. Another excellent set of photographs, Cristi. My favourite is the cyclist entering the narrow alley and the shaft of sunlight.

What is the significance of those series of numbers in blue on the walls?

With the first shot I wanted to show the moving traffic here and the slight chaotic nature of it.

Calvin, I have no idea what these numbers are but have seen them in a lot of places around Asia so will have to find out.

  5. Thanks for your comment Chris!

This is interesting, I have now found out that here they are for the energy companies that provide electricity and water to the building but the use in China is very interesting.
