The train pulled in at the border only a little bit later than expected but the immigration process was very smooth and fast, so fast even that everyone had to wait around until the train started to continue the journey to Butterworth.
Once in Butterworth, it was a quick walk to the ferry and a short ride across the bay to Penang Island.
After finding a coffee place to research some hotels and guest houses, I settled on one not too far and went to check in before heading back out for a walk.
The first impression of George Town is pretty good, I like the diversity and the fact that you can walk down a street and think you're in China then turn the corner and find yourself in India.
George Town also seems to be very arty with wall murals and other things to explore along the old part of town, a lot of nice looking food stalls and cafes. There is certainly enough to explore for the next days.
