Day 310 - Vehicles in Jogja

At first I planned on leaving Jogja and heading to Jakarta today. Since I took longer in the morning, I managed to miss the trains so decided to just stay one extra day here.

Day 309 - Dusk at the Beach

The day was a rather quiet one and I was mostly chilling in the morning and early afternoon. I even made use of the pool in my hotel, a first in years.

Day 308 - The Train back to Jogja

After Mt. Bromo I felt that I have seen enough of Indonesia and it was time to head on but not before seeing a bit of Jakarta. Since the train journey from Malang to Jakarta was too long, I decided to go back to Jogja for a few days to break up the journey and chill out a bit.

Day 307 - Mt. Bromo

After a very short night of about 3-4h sleep, I got up at 3:15 am to go hiking and see the sunrise over Mt. Bromo.

Day 306 - Das Boot in Surabaya

After arriving late from Bali yesterday, I was not sure if I wanted to stay longer in Surabaya or head straight for Mt. Bromo.
After a visit to the Tourist Information Centre and a browse on Wikitravel, I decided to head to Probolinggo and rent a bike there to head to Mt. Bromo.

Day 305 - Tanah Lot and Uluwatu Temples

Today was my last day in Bali and I booked a flight to Surabaya in the evening, this gave me the full day in Bali to go and see the Tanah lot and Uluwatu temples in the south near the airport.

Day 304 - Ubud Market

Today was a quiet day and after all the driving around the past days, I needed a break from the bike. So I just took it easy and went to check out the Ubud market.

Day 303 - Lake Bratan

Sometimes the way to the destination is so nice that you forget about the actual destination and you feel like going on forever after passing your destination.

Day 302 - The Way to Mt. Batur

Today was about getting out a bit further and exploring more of the island, the two choices were either go to mount Batur or to lake Bratan. The choice fell on Mt. Batur since I got a nice itinerary, with places to see on the way, from the owner of the guesthouse I was staying at.

Day 301 - Different Sides of Bali

After the rather touristy last two days, this started even more touristy with a drive around Ubud to see the rice fields and landscape around.

Day 300 - In Ubud

After getting a taste of the most touristy (and boring) part of Bali yesterday, Ubud seemed different at first with the small quiet streets, less tourists and no western fast food chains and restaurants spoiling the view.

Day 299 - Arriving in Bali

Taking the plane from Yogyakarta airport was easy and the flight to Bali pleasant enough. Once you arrive in Bali and leave the arrivals hall you realize how different Bali really is from the rest of Indonesia.

Day 298 - Keraton

The initial plan was to go and visit the Keraton Palace in Jogja in the morning and take the 20h train and ferry to Bali in the afternoon. While I prefer this route a quick look at flights made this not practical or economical so I booked a flight to Bali for tomorrow morning instead.

Day 297 - By The Beach

After exploring volcanoes, markets and the busy traffic of Indonesia it was time to go where I don't usually venture, to the beach.

Day 296 - More People in Jogja

Today, I spent my day mostly at the police station. No, they did not arrest me for speeding or taking photos.

Rather I was helping them and a friend tracking down the guys who had his phone that got 'lost' at the train station.

Day 295 - The Way to the Volcano

Sometimes the way is the destination, sometimes the destination is the destination and other times you just end up on the wrong way and there is no destination at all.

Day 294 - Borobudur Temple

Set off this morning on the bike towards the Borobudur Temple and took the slightly more scenic route there to avoid the main roads and also see more of the landscape and smaller towns here.

Day 293 - More from the Jogja Night Market

Today, I helped a friend with looking for a new phone after his got 'lost' at the station. In the evening I figured it would be great to go to the Prambanan Temple for the sunset.

Day 292 - Train to Jogja

An early start to catch the 7:00 train to Yogyakarta or Jogja as the locals call it. The train was quite comfortable with AC and power plugs for each seat so this was a great start. Oh, it also left on time so this again made a good impression of my first rain journey in Indonesia.

Day 291 - Road Trip to Mt. Papandayan

When the guy at the reception told me about Mt. Papandayan he was hoping to sell me a tour but since I rather do things myself I decided to just rent the bike for another day and drive the 80km myself.
